What Is It?

The 'Ooho orb' or water blob consists of water surrounded by a jelly like edible membrane or covering made of an algae specifically brown algae and calcium chloride also.

This squishy but enough strong gel like container or bottle decomposes after four to six weeks if not consumed. It's inventors also say that this sustainable packaging alternative can hold any kind of liquid which includes soft drinks, liquor and even cosmetics products. What’s more now the packaging is cheaper than plastic and also costing about less than 2 percents to produce.

What Are the Potential Downsides?

Unfortunately, there are still a few but serious issues that are needed to be resolved before the Ooho completely capture over plastic bottles. One of the major challenge is transportation the balls cannot be transported or carried around for long periods of time as it gets dirty or may even burst or I must say explode.

From a consumer point of view, people will have to grow accustomed to the texture of the gelatinous covering, as well as become adept in breaking the 'Ooho' without splashing water all over themselves. Finally, although smaller spheres can be encased inside a larger sphere as a way to ferry large amounts of water around, it’s still not as convenient as a plastic bottle.
