You want to buy a good refrigerator for a 4-5 member family but do you know which brand, how many star-rated or with what technologies you want? But from where to get maximum information online? Read this article till the end and you'll know everything about refrigerators. This is UNSPONSORED content without any brand advertisement. We make content with efforts and capabilities.
Things you need to know before buying a refrigerator...
Friends, read to these points as they will help you select the best refrigerator. A fridge works on 3 technical aspects- compression, condensation and evaporation which are best covered in a double door top mount refrigerator. (We will discuss these today) Insulation must be 6%-10% of total volume. Cheap refrigerators don't have adequate insulation and cause trouble later. The fridge to freezer ratio in this segment is 75:25 and 90% of refrigerators in this segment are convertible. Brands market their products by increasing the fridge space by reducing freezer space. But why do you need less freezer space when it is convertible? Make sure you check the net capacity. Most refrigerators claim stabilizer free operation but in case of voltage fluctuations, a stabilizer is a must.
Today refrigerators come with good inverter compressors. 2-3 star rated refrigerator will save up to 50 units (approx 400) electricity per year for ₹5000-₹6000 more for a 3-star refrigerator. Don't concentrate on fancy features. Read carefully to my pros and cons.
Here is the list of refrigerators :)
Panasonic 336L
- This 3-star model with an actual net capacity of 307L 8.5% less than gross capacity).
- You get a 230L fridge and 77L freezer which is a 25% ratio.
- It comes with Intelligent Inverter Compressor with Surround cooling airflow (cool air rotates in all 4 directions).
- There is a Humidity Control Slider that can be slid to control the level of humidity over vegetables.
- Panasonic claims AG Clean technology that eliminates 99.99% of bacteria and germs in the fridge, but I can't verify it.
- As per the ISEER label, it consumes 212 units of electricity per year.
- Its Gentle Surround Cooling will rotate in 4 directions to provide equal cooling. The good thing is its huge 35L vegetable box.
- You get toughened glass shelves (adjustable with height) and a movable ice tray (convenient).
- It weighs 58KG and it has 1 year comprehensive and 10 years warranty on compressor.
- It costs ₹30,500 and that's an impressive price.
Let's talk about the pros and cons:)
- It is a non-convertible model and good if you don't need one.
- Its pro is its large 35L vegetable box but water bottle space has been ignored (1 complete rack is missing). This is why the vegetable box is large.
- 80% back is covered and no wires are visible. The compressor area is visible for ventilation, and that's fantastic.
Number 4 in my list of the best refrigerator under ₹35,000.
Samsung 336L
- This 3-star model with an actual net capacity of 310L (7.5% less than gross capacity).
- You get a 238L fridge and 72L freezer which is a 23.5% ratio.
- It comes with Digital Inverter Technology and 5-in-1 Convertible options.
- It is Samsung's famous Curd Maestro model with Curd Maestro box. Access to Samsung curd can be made easily & ₹5,000 can be saved, but I don't think so.
- The good thing is All Round Cooling which cools equally from all directions. The digital display is given on the freezer door with all sorts of controls and they are quite responsive.
- You get toughened glass shelves and it is an inverter compatible refrigerator.
- As per the ISEER label, it consumes 263 units of electricity per year.
- It weighs 60KG and it has 1 year comprehensive and 10 years warranty on compressor.
- It costs ₹34,500.
Let's talk about the pros & cons:)
- This is a good refrigerator with a good & responsive touch control panel.
- 80% back is covered and no wires or coils are visible.
- You get Clean back, good features and good capacity, but what's the con?
- I think that curd maestro is an over-hyped feature. You just get a plastic box to make curd but I don't think it'll save up to ₹5,000. We have been making curd like this for so many years but in steel utensils. I don't think a plastic box will save ₹5,000.
- Apart from this, the last bottle shelf is missing. If fewer water bottles in a refrigerator are fine with you then this is a good fridge with good working convertible options.
You can consider it after reading the pros and cons.
3 in my list of the best refrigerator under ₹35,000
Godrej 350L
- This 2-star model with an actual net capacity of 318L (6.5% less than gross capacity).
- You get a 246L fridge and 75L freezer which is a 23.5% ratio.
- It comes with Intelligent Inverter Technology and 4-in-1 Convertible options which means it can be operated on 4 different modes.
- It has toughened glass shelves and the thickest insulation, as per Godrej.
- The density of thickness can't be known. Nevertheless, its thickness can be seen.
- Godrej has used its own patented cool shower technology. A cooling vent is given over every shelf which keeps the food cool.
- There is a Digital display on the freezer 4600:10:48,000 --> 00:10:58,000door with all sorts of controls including a convertible option.
- Godrej claims the largest vegetable box of 34L but we have recently seen a 35L box in Panasonic.
- As per the ISEER label, it consumes 272 units of electricity per year.
- It weighs 78KG and it has 1 year comprehensive and 10 years warranty on compressor.
- It costs ₹33,000.
Let's talk about the pros and cons:)
- This is a good refrigerator with good built quality and 80% back is covered.
- The only compressor is uncovered for proper ventilation.
- There is a movable ice tray, which is a good thing but what's the problem.
- The problem is its 34L largest vegetable box because of which the last water bottle shelf is missing (less bottle storage). This is a con because this is a convertible refrigerator and you don't need a big basket.
- Its fridge section can be increased because it is convertible. For more space, go for a bigger refrigerator.
- The largest vegetable box is a marketing gimmick. All said and done, this is a good refrigerator.
Whirlpool 340L
- This 3-star model with an actual net capacity of 310L (8.5% less than gross capacity).
- You get a 225L fridge and 86L freezer which is a 28% ratio.
- It comes with 6th sense technology and IntelliSense Inverter Technology. 6th sense technology detects the outside weather, storage and usage and automatically adjusts the cooling.
- Despite that, there are 5-in-1 Convertible options. There is Zeolite & Microblock technology which is just a marketing gimmick.
- It has toughened glass shelves and a Fresh Flow Air Tower which is the cooling mechanism of this refrigerator.
- Air vents are given in tower shape which circulates the cool air.
- It comes with Honeycomb Moisture Cover which means the lid over the vegetable box is in honeycomb shape to retain moisture.
- There is a freshener in a deodorizer which is a very fancy feature and it can be refilled in ₹200-₹250 from Whirlpool.
- There is a Digital display on the freezer door & it is an inverter compatible model.
- As per the ISEER label, it consumes 207 units of electricity per year.
- It weighs 64KG and it has 1 year comprehensive and 10 years warranty on the compressor.
- It costs ₹33,500.
Let's talk about the pros and cons:)
- This is a good refrigerator with all features, all types of racks, good bottles shelves, good digital control panel with all controls.
- A convertible option is also accessible and they work well. 80% back is covered.
- The only compressor is uncovered for proper air ventilation but what's the problem.
- The problem is its Refrigerant- R600a which is not environmental friendly.
- Secondly, its compressor pops out from the back body. It's not a big problem because it will be hidden once it goes behind. This is a good refrigerator.
Number 1 in my list of the best refrigerator under ₹35,000.
LG 335L
- This 3-star model with an actual net capacity of 307L (8.5% less than gross capacity).
- You get a 227L fridge and 80L freezer which is a 26% ratio.
- It comes with Inverter Linear Compressor which is a different compressor as it runs at one speed and gives uniform cooling.
- It is a convertible refrigerator but there is only 1 mode- the refrigerator can be converted into a fridge.
- Its door cooling option is a fantastic thing and is present only in this refrigerator.
- It is both solar and inverter compatible.
- It has toughened glass shelves and a smart diagnosis feature (LG's patented feature).
- Don't concentrate on Moist 'N' Fresh as it is just a Honeycomb cover to retain moisture.
- Don't concentrate on the Anti-Bacterial gasket which is there in every refrigerator.
- The good thing is it's 100% clean back and vents have been left for ventilation in the compressor. I think every brand should do this.
- But LG has given a touch control panel inside, which is not good.
- As per the ISEER label, it consumes 212 units of electricity per year.
- It weighs 40KG and it has 1 year comprehensive and 10 years warranty on compressor.
- It costs ₹35,500.
Let's talk about the pros and cons:)
- This is an amazing refrigerator, probably the best I could see.
- It has a 100% covered back with air vents on the compressor to prevent any trouble.
- It is a smart move from LG. The linear compressor is good and maintains uniform cooling.
- Its door cooling is good and it is not present in any other refrigerator. This cools the things kept indoor and it is a boon in Summers. Then what's the problem?
- The problem is only 1 convertible option- the refrigerator can be converted into a fridge.
- Secondly, its touch panel is completely inside the fridge and to get to it, all things have to be sidelined.
- This is a good refrigerator.
